1. Will the student whom I request as a roommate automatically become my roommate?
No. When you select another student during the Contract Request Phase and you receive a regular room housing contract offer, that student's name will automatically be placed on your housing contract. Both students must be offered a regular room contract for this to occur. If you do not change your roommate selection to another name on the contract, you will be considered as roommates during the assignment process. Keep in mind, both students must accept their housing contract and both must keep the original name in the contract roommate preference to be considered. Students who requested a potential roommate of a different gender will not be carried over to the contract as a roommate and will not be considered as a roommate option.

2. Am I guaranteed a Contract Offer when I submit a request?
No. Sometimes there are more requests for rooms than there are rooms available. You will receive a Contract Offer for a regular room, a supplemental room, or you will not receive an offer at all.

TOP

3. Do I have a better chance of receiving a Contract Offer if I submit my request early?
No. All offers are made randomly. A student who submits a request at the beginning of the process has no greater or lesser chance of receiving a Contract Offer than someone who submits a request at the end of the process.

TOP

4. Am I expected to accept a contract if I am offered one?
Yes. You should only enter the process if your intent is to submit a contract.

TOP

5. Can I change my request after it has been submitted?
Yes. You can modify your request as many times as you wish or cancel your request any time prior to the start of the offer process in January. See Timeline for the specific dates.

TOP

6. Does the contract become legally binding once it is submitted?
Yes. Once you submit your Housing Contract, you cannot cancel it. You are legally bound to the Housing Contract once it has been submitted. You are financially responsible for the entire period of the contract.

TOP

7. Can I change my preference information after I submit my contract?
Yes. Current students may modify their Housing Contract preference information anytime through the modification deadline. See Timeline for the specific date.

TOP

8. Are room assignments made in the order that contracts are submitted?
No. Room assignments are based on a combination of factors. Date of submission is not one of those factors. However, you must submit your contract within three business days of the date and time the Contract Offer was posted to eLiving.

TOP

9. Am I guaranteed my roommate request?
No. Roommate requests cannot be guaranteed. However, every attempt will be made to assign students together if they request one another. At University Park, if one student accepts a reserved group contract and the preferred roomate is not a member of that group, often times the roomate cannot be pulled in.

TOP

10. Can I participate in the single room and suite Lottery process if I have a supplemental contract?
No. You may only participate in the Lottery processes if you have a regular room contract. However, you may add your name to any Waitlist, including the Eastview Terrace Waitlist.

TOP

11. If I have a supplemental room contract, can I be assigned to a regular room if my friend with a regular room contract requests me as a roommate?
No. You cannot be assigned to a regular room with a supplemental contract.

TOP

12. If I submit a Contract Request and do not receive an offer, will my name automatically be added to the Waitlist?
Yes. Your name will automatically be added to the Waitlist if you request a Housing Contract and are not offered a Housing Contract.

13. I am considering a Change of Campus to another Penn State campus. Should I participate in the contract process?
Yes. If you are interested in living on campus, it is highly recommended that you submit two Contract Requests - one for your current campus, and one for the campus you plan to attend.
