Housing Process for current Penn State students
RESERVED GROUPS
The process and timeline detailed on the eLiving information is focused on the process for regular Housing Contracts. Certain groups at University Park are considered a reserved group, and may have a different process and timeline to follow. Students that are associated with a reserved group are responsible for following the process identified and meeting deadlines associated with that reserved group.
What is a Reserved Group?
Because of the nature and goals of the environment, certain residence hall environments are considered RESERVED SPACE and residents of these environments are classified as members of that RESERVED GROUP. Sororities and most Special Living Options are such environments. Some students are affiliated with certain academic and/or athletic programs and are considered a reserved group because of this particular affiliation.
RESERVED GROUPS are:
- All students who currently reside in the following environments:
- Eastview Terrace
- Nittany Suites
- Nittany Apartments

Timeline for Reserved Groups
The timeline for Reserved Groups is accelerated because of the option to request or receive a Priority Housing Contract which allows students in these groups to know their housing status and/or placement location earlier in the academic year than students who are submitting requests through the regular housing contract process.
Members of Reserved Groups are expected to adhere to the timeline established for their group. Exceptions will not be made for students who miss deadlines to request or accept RESERVED GROUP contract offers. Students who miss either the deadline to request or accept their RESERVED GROUP contract offer will be able to submit a request for non-reserved REGULAR space.

Modification deadline for all RESERVED GROUP and Eastview Terrace contracts
|
NOTE:
Students submitting multiple contract requests are responsible to know and adhere to the timeline established for each housing contract request submitted.
Multiple Contract Requests for Reserved Groups
RESERVED GROUP housing contracts are restricted to the rooms reserved for that group. If a RESERVED GROUP student prefers to live somewhere outside of their reserved area, University Park students in RESERVED GROUPS may submit housing contract requests for any or all of the following:
- the current RESERVED GROUP in which they are a member
- Eastview Terrace
- non-reserved REGULAR space
Housing contract offers for RESERVED GROUPS are extended BEFORE housing contract offers for non-reserved REGULAR space are extended. You will be able to accept, decline or allow an offer to expire for these environments whose contracts are offered earlier in the timeline. Any contract that is not actively accepted or declined by the deadline that appears on the contract offer, will expire on that date. You must adhere to the deadline(s) for the specific contract offer that you are considering. Expired contract offers will not be re-issued.
Housing contract requests for the current RESERVED GROUP
When requesting a housing contract for the reserved group in which you are currently a member, a roommate preference must be a member of that reserved group. Roommate preference not listed as an actual member of the reserved group will not be considered.
Housing contract requests for Eastview Terrace
If you meet eligibility requirements to live in Eastview Terrace, you may submit a housing contract request for this environment.
Housing contract requests for non-reserved REGULAR space
If you are interested in living on-campus and considering environments other than your current RESERVED GROUP space, you should submit a housing contract request for non-reserved REGULAR space. When submitting this request, you will be able to indicate a preferred roommate. Students will be randomly selected to receive non-reserved REGULAR housing contracts from among the total group of students submitting this type of housing contract request beginning on January 21, 2009. No priority in receiving a housing contract offer is given to members of RESERVED GROUPS who submit a request for non-reserved REGULAR space.
If living with a preferred roommate who is not a member of your reserved group, is more important to you than your return to your RESERVED GROUP environment, you should submit a contract request for a non-reserved REGULAR space so that you may indicate and rank your placement priorities accurately IF a housing contract offer is extended to you.
If entering lotteries for certain types of accommodations is more important to you than your return to your RESERVED GROUP environment, you should submit a request for a non-reserved REGULAR space to be eligible to enter these lotteries IF a housing contract offer for this type of space is extended to you.
Lotteries
Some RESERVED GROUP housing contracts do not allow students to preference options such as location, SLO or roommate. These reserved groups are not eligible to enter lotteries for Nittany Apartments, Suites or single rooms outside of their living option.
RESERVED GROUP Single Room Assignment
Students who accept restricted RESERVED GROUP contract offers will indicate their desire to receive a single room assignment through their Room Type preference on the contract. By indicating “Single Room” as your first preference of room type, you are indicating that you will accept a single room in your RESERVED GROUP environment.
Single rooms for reserved groups are assigned according to the guidelines established for a particular reserved group. Selecting single room as a room type preference does not guarantee your placement in a single room.
By selecting single room as a room type, you are indicating an acceptance of this placement and the associated housing rate change that applies. Students who select a reserved group single room type will not be notified of this placement. You should only select single room if you are willing to accept this assignment.
Accepting a Housing Contract Offer
When submitting more than one housing contract offer, keep in mind that different guidelines and options will be available to you dependent upon the type of housing contract offered and the contract that you choose to accept.
Contract offers for your current RESERVED SPACE
All RESERVED GROUP housing contracts are extended on the same date and will expire on the same date as indicated in the contract timeline. Students who decline their RESERVED GROUP housing contract offer or allow it to expire will be able to submit a housing contract request for a non-reserved REGULAR space on campus. See timeline for specific dates and deadlines.
Acceptance of the RESERVED GROUP housing contract indicates this environment is your top priority in placement and will be ranked higher than a preferred roommate.
If living with a preferred roommate who is not a member of your living environment is more important than your return to your RESERVED GROUP environment, you should decline the RESERVED GROUP contract offer and submit a request for a non-reserved REGULAR space so that you can rank your priorities accurately and indicate a preferred roommate.
If entering into lotteries for certain types of accommodations is more important to you than your return to your RESERVED GROUP environment, you should decline the RESERVED GROUP contract offer and submit a request for a non-reserved REGULAR space to be eligible to enter these lotteries.
Eastview Terrace Housing Contract Offers (and Waitlist)
Housing contract offers for Eastview Terrace may occur in multiple rounds on different dates depending on the space available at the completion of the first round of Eastview Terrace contract offers.
The first round of Eastview Terrace contract offers occurs with all other RESERVED GROUP contract offers.
If you have submitted requests for both your current RESERVED GROUP and Eastview Terrace, you may receive a contract offer for both of these living environments. You may accept only one contract offer at this time. Once a contract is submitted it is legally binding for the specific environment indicated.
If you do not receive a housing contract offer for Eastview Terrace, you will have the option to add your name to a waiting list for Eastview Terrace when accepting your RESERVED GROUP contract offer if you are still interested in pursuing a living space in this environment.
Important Notes about the Eastview Terrace Waitlist Any student who adds his/her name to the Eastview Terrace waitlist is indicating a higher preference for Eastview than his/her current RESERVED GROUP living space. An assignment to Eastview Terrace will take precedence over any RESERVED GROUP contract or non-reserved REGULAR contract submitted.
If you are willing to accept a room assignment in Eastview Terrace should one become available later in the housing contract process, you should add your name to the Eastview waitlist. Should a space in Eastview Terrace become available, you will not be contacted and will be automatically assigned there. Your RESERVED GROUP contract on non-reserved REGULAR contract will be cancelled.
If, at any time until arrival for the fall semester, you are not willing to accept an automatic room assignment in Eastview Terrace, you should remove your name from the Eastview Terrace waitlist.

Non-reserved REGULAR housing contract offers
The contract request process and the contract offer process for non-reserved REGULAR housing occurs after the deadline to accept a RESERVED GROUP contract offer.
If you receive a housing contract offer for non-reserved REGULAR space, you may indicate a preferred roommate, location and SLO. You will be able to rank these options in placement and enter the lotteries for single rooms, suites and Nittany Apartments when accepting this contract offer.
Making modifications to your RESERVED GROUP housing contract
You may make modifications to your meal plan selection and preferences after you accept your RESERVED GROUP contract until noon, Friday, February 5, 2009.
