Housing Contract process for new first-year students attending University Park
How to Get Your Housing and Food Service Contract
First-year students are required to live on campus at University Park. To activate your eligibility for a Housing and Food Service Contract, you must first send your Acceptance Notification and fees to the Office of the Bursar.
Because rooms are assigned in the order that acceptance fees are received, it is to your advantage to send in your fees as soon as you decide to attend Penn State. Housing for first-year students is available across campus, but keep in mind that popular locations and Special Living Options (SLOs) fill up quickly. Students who submit their acceptance fees later in the process may not receive their residence area, SLO, and roommate preferences, and may be assigned to supplemental housing —a reduced-rate residence hall room that houses more than two people—rather than to a regular double room.
Submitting Your Contract: As a first-year student at Penn State University Park, you are guaranteed housing and are required to live on campus. A housing deposit is included in the fees required with your acceptance. If you are over 21 years of age, married, a veteran, or a resident of Centre County, you can elect to be exempt from the housing requirement. If you are exempt, submit the exemption application form to the address at the bottom of the form.
Students accepting the offer of admission online will be prompted to complete the Housing and Food Service Contract online. If you are eligible for a housing exemption, it will be indicated at this time.
If you are accepting your offer of admission by paper, the Housing and Food Service Contract will be available on www.eLiving.psu.edu once the University receives your acceptance fees. Students accepting by paper and eligible for exemption from the housing requirement must contact the Assignment Office for Campus Residences at 814-865-7501 to request the exemption prior to accepting the Housing and Food Service Contract. If the exemption is not granted, you will be expected to complete a housing contract. Your $100 housing deposit will be charged to your student account. When submitting your contract, you will need to indicate your contract preferences (residence hall area, roommate, SLO) and select a meal plan. After you submit your contract, you will still be able to view your contract and make preference changes (such as adding a roommate or choosing an SLO) at eLiving until May 1.
In late July, you will receive information directing you to www.eLiving.psu.edu to view your housing assignment and roommate information.

Good to Know: If you have a friend who is considering Penn State and you would like to room together, send in your Acceptance Notification and fees as soon as you decide to attend Penn State—even if your friend has not yet decided. Then, log on to eLiving and submit your Housing and Food Service Contract. Once your friend accepts his or her offer of admission, make sure to enter your friend in the “roommate preferences” section of your contract. Please keep in mind however that if your preferred roommate accepts his or her offer after all regular space is filled you will not be assigned as roommates. You will receive a regular room assignment while your friend will be assigned to a supplemental room.
