Frequently Asked Questions

1. Am I expected to submit a contract?

2. Can I change my contract preferences after submitting my contract?

3. Does the contract become legally binding once it is submitted?

4. Are room assignments made in the order that contracts are submitted?

5. Am I guaranteed my roommate request?

1. Am I expected to submit a contract?
Yes. First-year students are required to live on campus at University Park. If you submit your contract at the same time you accept your offer to Penn State, you will be notified if you are eligible to be exempt from the housing requirement. You can indicate your exemption at that time. If you send in your acceptance by paper, you must contact the Assignment Office for Campus Residences in writing, to request your exemption.

2. Can I change my contract preferences after submitting my contract?
Yes. You can modify your contract preferences as many times as you wish until June 15. After June 15 changes to your contract cannot be made.

3. Does the contract become legally binding once it is submitted?
Yes. You are legally bound to and financially responsible for the contract after submission.

4. Are room assignments made in the order that contracts are submitted?
No. Room assignments are based on a combination of factors including the date students accept their offer of admission. Date of submission is not one of those factors. However, you must submit your contract within the time period indicated on the offer.

5. Am I guaranteed my roommate request?
No. Roommate requests are not guaranteed. Students who submit their housing contracts later in the process may receive a supplemental housing assignment. If their preferred roommate has submitted his or her contract early in the process, they will be assigned to a regular room
